NAHL Comes Calling For Jets Swedish Forward Denitton

2010-04-21

Daniel Denitton

Jets All Star Forward Receiving Plenty of NAHL Attention Following 1st Season in North America

For Immediate Release:

About a year ago nobody had ever heard of Daniel Denitton a 17 year old Swedish born player who had never even seen North America let alone the North American physical style brand of hockey.  Several NAHL teams passed on the speedy winger but not the Jets and Head Coach Dennis Canfield.  The Jets were looking to replace a high powered offense from the year before that saw multiple players leave for Tier II including shifty winger and leading scorer Tyler Underhill a 50+ goal scorer who was off to the NAHL's Texas Tornado's.  Underhill an excellent skater and a center turned winger worked the wall better than anyone and was not affraid to play physical.  That was something that Canfield thought he would not be able to replace until he saw Daniel Denitton at an NAHL camp.  "I do alot of scouting for the NAHL and talk with alot of US and Canadian teams when I saw Daniel I knew this kid could learn our style of game (North American) and develope into a solid prospect...he's got got hands makes quick decisions and has great fundementals to compliment his European skating style.  The most important thing to his game is his ability to adjust and his wanting to learn...and learn he did.  Fast forward one year...now an18 year old and fresh off his first season in North America that saw him earn NJHL All Star Honors compiling 22 goal and 30 assists for 52 point in 47 games played. To take that a step further Denitton was a key member of the power play and a regular penalty killer and was one of the least penalized Jets recording only 14 minutes of penalties in the 47 games.  The result the NAHL has come calling and for good reason.  Drago (Nickname given by team) had impressive numbers this season but what suprised alot of scouts was his physical game that complimented his talent which many teams noticed at the EHK Showcase in Chicago.  "5 teams have called us and asked about him it's not everyday you see a swedish player with hands go and dig pucks in the corners it's a real testiment to his work ethic and is exactly what our program is about and that is developing these young men for the next level."  Over the next few weeks Coach Canfield and Daniel will sit down and determine exactly what is best for him and put a plan in place that best suits him.  "I promised his mom and dad I would look out for him because he's so far from home he's a great kid with a bright future...seeing him succeed and follow his dreams makes all your time and effort worth while it's really rewarding" The Jets will be releasing their tryout dates in the next few days...stay tuned for more information.
