EARLY DEFICIT TOO MUCH FOR JETS TO OVERCOME

2010-03-19

The Jamestown Jets fell behind just 11 seconds into game one of the NJHL playoffs and they were never able to regroup. It was difficult for them to get any momentum in a penalty plagued game with the Troy Bruins.

(Jamestown, NY )  The Troy Bruins power play led the way as they finished off the Jamestown Jets 6-1 in game one of a best-of-3 series between the two teams. It didn’t take long for the  Bruins to build some momentum as Aaron Huber gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead just 11 seconds into the game. A pass from Derek MacPherson deflected and Aaron Huber was left all alone in the slot to fire a wrist shot over the glove of Jets goalie Chad Karns.

The Bruins added to their lead with a power play goal from Gleb Luchnikov. Jamestown killed off all but nine seconds of a two man advantage when Luchnikov beat Karnes from just inside the left faceoff circle.

The Bruins padded their lead on a late goal by Justin Dornhecker. Dornhecker followed up a rebound after Karns robbed Luchnikov on a breakaway that started when he stepped out of the penalty box.

The second period, like the first was filled with penalties that took the flow out of the game. The Bruins converted another two man advantage for the only goal of the period. The Bruins converted on 2-of-9 power play chances through 40 minutes of play.

Jamestown began the third period on a power play and they wasted no time taking advantage. Dan Kuenzi scored his first of the playoffs on a one-timer through the legs of Bruins goalie Alan Dowler. The momentum didn’t for Jamestown as Dan Igielinski went to the box for roughing just 38 seconds later. The Oilers added a couple of late power play goals to put away the Jets.

The Bruins scored four power play goals and were 4-for-12 on the night. Jamestown had eight power plays opportunities and converted once in a game that was marred by penalties from start to finish.

Game two will be played at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. The Jets need a victory to extend the series to a third and final game that will take place on Sunday.
