The Jamestown Jets learned from their mistakes and held on for a 6-3 victory over the Wooster just one night after the blew a two goal third period lead on their way to a shootout loss.
(Jamestown, NY ) Jon Cirone scored twice and Chad Karns made 47 saves as the Jamestown Jets upset the first place Wooster Oilers 6-3 in front of a good crowd at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena. David Moore, Jon Gratton, Joe Rohm and Alex Stahl scored the other Jamestown goals as they improved their record to 21-23-3. Jamestown came away with three of a possible four points from the top team in the Northern Junior Hockey League.
Jamestown withstood an early surge from the visiting Oilers and David Moore put the Jets on the board first with a power play goal nearly seven minutes into the first period. Oilers goalie Ryan Caissie made the initial save but he knocked the loose puck into his own net.
Later in the period the Jets added to their lead on a goal by Jon Cirone. The teams were four skaters aside after Jon Gratton negated a Jets power play with a penalty. Jon Andhor and Cirone had a 2-on-1 break, Caissie made the initial save on Andhor but the rebound caromed directly onto the stick of Cirone and he buried his chance into the back of the net.
The Wooster Oilers finally got on the board early in the second period on a power play goal by Jordan Foster. Foster took a shot from the point that weaved through traffic in front of the net and found its way past Karns. Less than a minute later Derek MacNeil went to the box for high-sticking and Wooster tied the game with their second power play goal of the game.
Jon Gratton scored his 29th goal of the season to give the Jets back their one goal lead. Gratton fired a wrist shot by Cassie after a nice feed from Jets captain Dan Igielinski. Jamestown went back ahead by two on a goal of what appeared to be a broken play. Jon Andhor had his shot deflect wide off a stick but the carom came out in front and Joe Rohm deflected the puck off of Caissie and into the net.
The physical play intensified in the second half of the period as well. First Oilers forward Max Rickard went after David Moore after Moore and Jakob Smith went down hard behind the Jamestown goal. Later in the period Nick Donovan gave the Oilers a seven minute power play for going after Scott Brown in the Oilers zone.
Wooster pulled within one with their third power play goal of the game early in the third. Scott Brown jammed home a rebound after Karns had made two saves from in close. The Oilers were hoping to complete their second consecutive come from behind victory but Alex Stahl gave the Jets back their two goal lead just four minutes later. Jon Cirone sealed the Jets victory with an empty net goal with just over one minute left in the game.
