Jets drop pair on road...penalties and slow start cause.Montreal, Quebec
The Jets dropped their second game of a two game series against the Canadian rivals Team Ulysse 8-6 on saturday. Special team would prove to be the difference as Ulysse used 3 power play goals to put away the visiting Jets. The Jets came out flat for the second straight night and found themselves trailing early once again. "They beat us to loose pucks all weekend and kept the game simple converting on their opportunities. We have beaten every team in the league and we're dangerous when we play our game but it takes a complete 60 minutes from each player to earn a victory something our young team is still learning" said coach Canfield. The Jets offense was lead offensively by forward Jon Gratton (2 goals 1 asst) and defensemen David Moore (3 asst). The Jets would battle from a 5-0 deficit to pull within one goal early in the 3rd period but a costly penalty late allowed Ulysse to regain their 2 goal lead and salt the game away. Newcomer Ulysse Lechene replaced starting goaltender Rick Hennard after 20 minutes and was good holding the Jets in the game. "I like our goaltending situation alot right now. Ricky has been great for us down the stretch and will be vital for us in the playoffs. The guys didn't show up in front of him today. I wanted to get him out of there to shake them up and protect him. Uly did his job and gave us a chance to win under the circumstances" said Canfield. Missed opportunities and the fact the Jets were without assistant captain Nate Hughes all contributed to a disappointing trip north of the border. Disappointing can be used to describe this weekend but in typical Canfield fashion the coach always seems to find the positive. "Hey are we disappointed absolutely because we know we are beating ourselves rather than these teams beating us. They are a tremendous group of young men I'm really proud of them. "We" have everything we need sitting in our room it's a matter of us beleiving in one another beleiving in the system and doing the little things. I stand by them whatever it takes "WE" are in this together." The Jets will look to get back on track next weekend as they travel to the city of "botherly love" to take on the Philadelphia Thunder Saturday and Sunday before returning to the friendly confines of Jamestown savings Bank Arena to take on the Wooster Oilers the following weekend.
