The Jamestown Jets exploded for 10 goals in a 10-3 victory against an unsuspecting Philadelphia Thunder team that took care of them a night earlier.
(Jamestown, NY)Jon Gratton had a hat trick and Bruce Statton scored a pair of goals to extend his point streak to seven games as the Jamestown Jets took care of the Philadelphia Thunder 10-3. Rick Hennard made 25 saves to earn his fourth victory of the season. Nate Hughes, Alex Stahl, Frank Guadagno, Daniel Denniton and Joe Rohm were the other Jets goal scorers.
Still stinging from their 7-6 loss on Friday night the Jets came out flying from the opening faceoff. Thunder defenseman Alex Unrue took a hooking penalty just 11 seconds into the game after Nic Donovan and Dan Igielinski broke in on a 2-on-1 break. Philadelphia killed off the ensuing power play and the momentum quickly shifted in their direction. They tallied their third power play goal of the weekend after Donovan took a hooking penalty in the offensive zone.
Determined to not have a repeat of Friday night the Jets to line took the game over just minutes later. Jon Gratton tied the game with his 24th goal of the season on a wrist shot into the top corner after a nifty pass from Nate Hughes. Hughes put Jamestown ahead just 25 seconds later after an incredible individual effort to maintain the puck while he skated behind the net and back out front.
Alex Stahl added to the Jamestown lead with a slap shot that trickled through the legs of Thunder goalie Alex Difazio. Difazio appeared to make the save but the puck found its way through his legs and just crossed over the goal line.
The Jets added to their two goal lead early in the second period on a wrist shot from Frank Guadagno that found its way through traffic and by Difazio. Philadelphia answered back on a wrist shot from Anthony Lugo who beat Hennard on the short side to cut the Jamestown lead to 4-2.
This night belonged to the Jets however and Bruce Statton put the Jets back ahead by three with his eighth goal in his last seven games. Daniel Denniton added to the Jamestown lead just 28 seconds later and forced Philadelphia to replace Difazio with Cody Martin. Jon Gratton would add a shorthanded goal later in the period to give Jamestown a 7-2 lead late in the second period. Philadelphia added a late goal to send the teams to locker room with the score 7-3.
The Jets continued their offensive assault on Philadelphia wit three more tallies in the third period including a controversial goal by Joe Rohm. Rohm took the shot that trickled by Martin and went just inside the right goal post and the referee immediately signaled goal despite the dispute from the Thunder players.
Jamestown will head on the road next weekend as they travel to Troy, Ohio for the first time in team history. Check www.jamestownjets.com for information on faceoff times and broadcast information.
