Jets Take Point From Wooster; Jets Denitton Has Career Night

Jets give Oilers all they could handle rematch on Sunday.
Wooster, OH.The Jamestown Jets and Wooster Oilers gave the fans in Wooster their money’s worth and revived a rivalry that has been dominated by the Oilers the previous 3 meetings this season.The Jets who have been surging in the standings of late gave up a goal in the opening seconds only to settle down and quite the powerful Oilers offense sending the team to the first intermission with the Jets trailing 1-0.The second period the Jets found their legs early but a costly turnover resulted in a Oilers even strength goal on a redirect that increased the lead to 2-0.The Oilers continued to press but Jets net minder #35 Rick Hennard turned in a solid start (making 47 saves) holding the Oilers at bay until # 9 Daniel Denitton would get the Jets on the board at 8:09 of the 2nd on a feed from #14 David Moore.Controlling the momentum and with the Jets on the power play Moore would pull Jamestown even as he beat a screened Oilers net minder with 5:07 left sending the teams to the locker room tied at 2-2.The 3rd would see the Jets take the lead on a power play goal from their big man #19 Nick Sosnowski as he redirected a point shot from Moore giving the Jets their first lead of the night 3-2.The Oilers would settle down and tie the game at 3-3 with a power play goal from #19 Brown that found it’s way past Hennard.The game would remained tied until the Jets would score their 3rd power play goal of the game as Jon Gratton put the Jets in front with under 5 minutes to play as he buried his own rebound giving the Jets a 4-3 lead.The Jets looked as if they were going to walk away with both points however costly undisciplined penalties lead to a late Oilers goal with 1:27 left that would send the game to a shootout. The Oilers eventually would win in a shootout downing the Jets 5-4.Scoring for the Jets in the shootout were #9 Daniel Denitton who had 2 goals and 2 assist on the night and #24 Jon Gratton his second goal of the game.“It was a good battle tonight…we had them and let this one slip away but we showed we can play with them if we stay disciplined and our guys know it… it’s a long season we will be ready on Sunday.” Said Canfield.The rematch is set for 4:30 Sunday afternoon in Wooster for more information visit www.jamestownjets.com.Also don’t forget Saturday Dec 12th the Jets return home to take on the Troy Bruins at 7:35 PM and will honor the Southwestern Trojans and the Randolph Cardinals on their 2009 NYS High School Football Championships
