Jets Sweep Findlay; Won 4 Straight

2009-11-10

Jets hit stride...heading north of the border this weekend to take on Team Ulysse in Montreal.

(Jamestown, NY)   The Jamestown Jets completed a weekend sweep of the Findlay Grrrowl with a 9-2 victory on Friday night and a 7-5 win in the second game.  The Jets took care of the Grrrowl easily on Friday night but on Saturday Findlay put up a bigger fight.

Mike Shanahan started the scoring for the Grrrowl just 45 seconds into the game with a wrist shot that beat Jets goalie Lorne Shotwell on the short side.  Brock Donnelly added to the Findlay lead with a shot into the top corner.  Nate Hughes finally put the Jets on the board after receiving a beautiful pass from Jon Gratton. Gratton slid a pass in front to Hughes who deflected it by Grrrowl goalie Christov Konstantin.

Jamestown finally took control of the game early in the second period.  Brandon Renckens tied the game with a heads up lay off the faceoff.  With a faceoff to the right of the Findlay goal, Renckens won the faceoff with a shot towards the net that beat Konstantin who was not expecting a shot on goal.  Just 29 seconds later, the Jets went ahead 3-2 on a howitzer from Adam Kesser from the left point.  Brock Donnelly tied the score with his second goal of the game but Joe Rohm scored his third goal of the season to give the Jets the lead for good.

The third period started much like the second with Jamestown swarming around the Findlay goal. Adam Cunningham gave the Jets a two goal lead just 34 seconds into the final period.  Dan Igielinski padded the Jamestown lead with his ninth goal of the season and Nate Hughes sealed the Jamestown victory with his second goal of the game.

Hughes finished with two goals and Dan Igielinski and Brandon Renckens each had a goal and an assist.  Lorne Shotwell made 26 saves to earn his fourth win of the season.  The Jets improved their record to 10-8-0 and are now in second place in the Northern Junior Hockey League.

The Jets will travel to Quebec next week to take on Team Ulysee before coming back home to face the Adirondack Predators on Friday November 20 and Saturday November 21.
