Jamestown Signs Local Forward

(Jamestown, NY)  The Jamestown Jets return to the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena this weekend after completing a successful road trip last weekend. The Jets will play host to the Findlay Grrrowl who they swept in a pair of games last weekend.

The Jets continue to tweak the roster as they hope to climb the standings in the Northern Junior Hockey League. The Jets have signed forward and Jamestown, NY native Ryan Cunningham to a contract this week to add more depth the forward corps. “Ryan is a big framed older player with hands who will balance our lines and make us better offensively immediately he’s a welcomed addition to the Jets line-up” Jets coach Dennis Canfield said.

Cunningham played for the Port Colbourne Pirates in the Golden Horseshoe league last season.  He scored nine goals, 10 assists and 52 penalty minutes in 34 games for the Pirates.  He also had three assists and 24 penalty minutes in six playoff games.

Cunningham was previously a member of the Buffalo Stars Jr. B team and he also participated in the 2008 Bowman Cup a showcase of top local talent between Buffalo and Rochester hosted yearly at HSBC Arena.

The Jets and Grrrowl are becoming very familiar with each other, having met six times already this season.  Jamestown is hoping to continue their success against the team that ended their season last year.  Jamestown has won five of the six meetings this season with the only loss coming way back on opening weekend in Jamestown.

The Jets begin the weekend with an 8-8-0 record and are tied with the Troy Bruins for second place behind the Wooster Oilers in the NJHL standings.  The Jets have an opportunity to climb in the standings this weekend while the second place Bruins head to Wooster to take on the top team in the league.

Tickets are still available for both Friday and Saturday night by visiting www.jamestownjets.com or visiting the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena box office.  Face-off is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. both nights.
