Tired Jets squad rebounds takes 4 out of 6 points on the weekend.
Findlay, OH11/2/09
After two back to back home losses to first place Wooster at home last weekend the schedule didn’t do the Jets any favors as they traveled to Wooster on Friday evening for the third straight meeting between the two teams.Making life even more difficult was the Jets much like everyone else in the public fell victim to the flu virus not to mention they would be without their top defensemen David Moore.Moore was called up to Trenton in the Ontario Junior Hockey League joining last seasons asst captain and Jamestown native Tyler Nelson.Given the circumstances the hometown Jets came out firing and got an early goal from Nate Hughes who rejoined the team following a shoulder injury.Hughes got a nice feed from winger Daniel Denitton and streaked down the wing blasting a shot past the Oilers netminder giving the Jets the lead. The lead would hold until late in the second as Wooster got a power play goal to even the score at 1-1 heading to the locker room.Much like the weekend before however a much older Oilers team came to play in the 2 and 3rd periods scoring 4 power play goals eventually downing the Jets 9-3.“I thought we played well the early stages and showed we can play with them we’ll have more chances down the road” said Coach Canfield.Following the game the Jets traveled to Findlay arriving in the early morning hours and slept late to prepare for the 4 pm start against the Findlay Grrrowl whom they’ve defeated 3 times in 4 tries heading into the weekend. The Jets responded especially on the back end as Ethan Adamczyk got the start over newly acquired Rick Hennard who played the night before in Wooster.Adamczyk was sharp early and as the game went on he turned in a excellent performance earning a well fought 9-2 victory. Many Jets got on the board including Frank Guadagno whom rejoined the Jets several weeks ago.Last season Guadagno did not record a goal until the playoffs it was a good sign as everyone seemed to get on the stat sheet.Nate Hughes coming off his hat trick the night before was excellent again as was Jets captain Rob Marlinski who added two goals and nearly had a third. The Jets will need Marlinski to step up and lead the defensive squad with quality play in Moore’s absence.“Rob’s a competitor we’ve talked a lot about his leadership and how this is a crucial time for this hockey club he responded well over the weekend something we’ve been lacking as a team”.Sunday the Jets played their 3rd game in as many days and like the day before got contribution from everyone as newly acquired Joe Rohm whom netted his first two goals as a Jet.Hometown Jets product John Melcher added an asst on one of Rohm’s goals and nearly tallied one of his own as he redirected a shot just wide of the vacant net.The Grrrowl played tough and with the game in doubt and the Jets leading 4-3 asst captain Dan Igielinski tallied a goal that downed the Grrrowl as the Jets went on to win 6-4 taking 2 out of 3 games on the weekend. The tired Jets squad while not happy with the Wooster game will certainly take the 4 points verses Findlay given the circumstances. The Jets are now at .500 mark with the second places Troy Bruins coming to town this weekend. For ticket info call the JSBIA box office and for more Jets information stayed tuned to www.jamestownjets.com
