Jets Take to Road; Acquire Veteran Goaltender

2009-10-30

Jets visit Wooster Friday and then travel to Findlay Saturday and Sunday to take on the Grrrowl.

10/30/09  Wooster, OH

The Jamestown Jets are hitting the road for three games this weekend as they travel to Wooster on Friday evening and then following the game will travel to Findlay, OH for a pair of games Saturday and Sunday against the Grrrowl.  The Jets are coming off a disappointing weekend at home where they dropped a pair of games to the first place Oilers.  As a whole the Jets squad seemed out of rhythm and for the most part was out matched by a more veteran Oilers team.   Last season the Jets were the older team however it’s a long season and everyone experiences growing pains said Jets Coach Dennis Canfield.  “We are still very young and still looking for our identity it will come with time and cohesiveness.  We have a lot of talent in our locker room and last years rookies like Andhor, Renckens, and Marlinski have improved now we need to find another gear or part to bring it together”.  A part or combination of parts that the organization feels will not only shake up the team but also help bring a little swagger to the room.  Canfield wasted little time and informed his squad that more players will be arriving beginning with this weekend as the Jets announced they have signed 20 year old veteran net minder Rick Hennard.   The 6’ 3 210 pound Detroit, Michigan native was an All-Star last season for the Penn Enforcers and saw time in the NAHL with the Albert Lea Thunder.  Hennard has arrived in town Wednesday and is expected to play this weekend.   “Rick is someone we looked at acquiring last season he moves extremely well for a big goaltender and he is a competitor he will make an immediate impact”.  One thing that was very evident was the tempo of practice as the players know this is a big weekend.  The Jets players held several closed door meetings and everyone had a extra step all week.  That is something they certainly will need as the Oilers will surely be even more impressive in the friendly confines of Alice Noble Arena.  "Wooster is a older team with alot of talent in order to play with them especially on the road we will have to be very disciplined and capitalize on our opportunities."  said Canfield.  The Jets will return home next weekend November 6 & 7th to take on the Troy Bruins.  For more information on the Jets please stay tuned to www.jamestownjets.com
