Jets back on track after sweeping Findlay over the weekend.
The Jamestown Jets coming off a bye week took to the road for the first time this season and got a total team effort taking the two games series from their Ohio rivals the Findlay Grrrowl. On Friday the Jets used early goals from Forward Daniel Denitton and Defensemen Adam Kesser to take an early lead after the 1st period. The Jets maintained pressure netting 3 more tallies in the 2nd including goals by # 20 John Melcher and #21 Pete Sisson.Sisson’s goal the first of his junior career would prove to be the winner as the would add a late tally in the 3rd by #10 Jeremy Chai and cruise to a 6-3 victory.Ethan Adamczyk stopped 25 of 28 shots and was solid in the net getting the win for the visitors from Jamestown.“We came out with a purpose and played a complete 60 minutes tonight something we were lacking in the previous weekend. We’ve battled several injuries of late so a lot of guys were seeing increased ice time and they responded well.” said Jets Head Coach Dennis Canfield. The rubber match on Saturday saw the hometown Grrrowl come out hard early scoring just over a minute into the game on a nice wrist shot by veteran Brock Donnelly. The Jets answered minutes later as #10 Jeremy Chai scored his second of the weekend as he walked off the wall beating the Grrrowl net minder short side to tie the game.Findlay would regain the lead at the midway point of the 1st period as Donnelly would get his second of the game for Findlay on a shot that beat a screened Adamczyk giving the Grrrowl a 2-1 lead.It look as if the Grrrowl would head to the locker room with the lead until Jets assistant captain Nate Hughes would tie it late in the 1st period at 2 a piece. The second period saw a regrouped Jets team as #75 Nick Sosnowski tallied his first two goals of the year as he banged home a rebound in front for his 1st and them later redirected a shot from the point past the Grrrowl net minder for his second of the game.“Nick is a big body that teams have trouble with in front his contribution is a big part of our success the team was excited for him he’s worked very hard this year and it paid off hugely for him and this hockey club over the weekend.” Said Canfield. The game would get physical towards the later part of the second as several fights broke out with Defensemen Adam Kesser and Forward Justin Cubitt each getting into a altercation.“Both teams played hard and neither are afraid to mix it up once in awhile”Cubitt would leave the game following the fight requiring several stitches. In the 3rd the Jets would get tallies from #24 Jon Gratton and #61 Brandon Renckens and another solid effort from Adamczyk who stopped 22 of 26 in route to a 6-4 victory.Prior to the weekend the Jets were in unfamiliar territory for the first time in their existence as they were below the .500 mark.“It was something the staff and I used as a motivational tool. Here’s in Jamestown we pride ourselves on hard working blue collar hockey in which everyone contributes. These games were a testament to that as everyone from the 1st line to the 4thand defense all turned in a complete 60m minutes both games I was very please with their effort.” Said Canfield. The Jets return to action this weekend on the road against Adirondack before returning home Oct 23 and 24th @ 7:35 PM against their rivals the Wooster Oilers. For more information please visit www.jamestownjets.com
