The Jamestown Jets let a third period lead slip away but four stops from Lorne Shotwell and goals by Nate Hughes and Dan Igielinski gave the Jets a 5-4 shootout win.
(Jamestown, NY)The Jamestown Jets won two out of three against Team Ulysee from the province of Quebec.The Jets two wins are games that won’t be forgotten by those in attendance.
On Friday the Jets had one of the most incredible comebacks that have ever been seen.Team Ulysee controlled play through 40 minutes and it looked like they would coast to an easy victory.Team Ulysee scored three in the first period and four in the second on their way to a 7-2 lead.
Jamestown came out of the locker room with a spark but it wasn’t until 11:54 was left on the clock that Joe Coyne pulled the Jets within 7-3.By the time the clock read 8:29 the Jets had scored five more times and held an 8-7 lead.The Jets added two more goals in the final minutes and coasted to a 10-7 win.
It was unbelievable, I have never seen anything like that in my entire life” Jets head coach Dennis Canfield said.What can you say to your team when they trail by five with only 20 minutes to play?Dennis Canfield had very few words to say to his team but what he did say was important. “I just told them that we don’t quit, the Jamestown Jets will never quit” Canfield said after the game.His team believed him and they made sure the fans went home happy.
The Jets tried to duplicate the feat on Saturday night but Team Ulysee proved too tough.Once again the Jets were behind after two periods, this time trailing 4-1.Joe Coyne tried to make it interesting with a goal just 3:06 into the third period.The Jets would get no closer and eventually went on to lose 6-2 to Team Ulysee.
It was a rare three game series because of the distance that Team Ulysee had to travel to get to Jamestown.The Jets seen it has an opportunity to get revenge for their loss Saturday night.Jamestown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Joe Coyne and Jon Gratton in the first 1:20 of the game.
Team Ulysee inched closer on a power play goal from Gregory Heroux with Joe Coyne in the box.Dan Iglielinski gave the Jets their two goal lead back at the halfway point of the period.Igielinski fired a wrist shot just over the shoulder of Team Ulysee goalie Anthony Labelle to give Jamestown a 3-1 lead
Jamestown went back ahead by three on a pretty play by Brandon Renckens.Renckens won the face-off by shooting it on net and by the goalie Labelle.Team Ulysee scored an important goal in the closing seconds of the second period.Jets goalie Lorne Shotwell made a couple of saves but the rebound lay in the crease long enough for Jean-Christopher Houde to slide it over the goal line.
Team Ulysee scored twice in the third period with Jordan Ethier tying it with 3:16 left to play. Both goalies were outstanding in the waning minutes and the game went to a shootout.Lorne Shotwell made four saves in the shootout and Nate Hughes and Dan Igielinski scored to give Jamestown the 5-4 win.
The Jets are now 3-2-0 on the season with two win this season and Team Ulysee falls to 1-2-0 on the season.The Jets will be back in action next weekend as the Adirondack Predators come to town.
